Happy Birthday Google: Search Giant Celebrates Nine Years of Success

Believe it or not, Google headquarters was once in a California garage. When Stanford University Ph.D. students Larry Page and Sergey Brin envisioned a new way of searching the web, the multi-billion dollar empire known as Google was born.

Now a household name, Google has revolutionized the way that people search for and access information on the Internet. The reigning king of search engines uses a sophisticated algorithm, which allows online information seekers to quickly access relevant information.

For example, Texans hoping to join an exotic car club, rent a classic car, or take an exciting car tour to explore the North Texas Hill Country or other scenic parts of Texas can quickly find local businesses that offer these products and services using Google.

Because of their hard work, dedication, and vision, Larry Page and Sergey Brin are now two of the richest men in the world. The 34-year-old computer gurus tied for fifth place on the Forbes 400 list of the richest Americans. Each of the Google co-founders is now worth an incredible 18.5 billion dollars, over four times what they were worth in 2004. They are the youngest entrepreneurs to appear on the list, and Forbes editor Matthew Miller aptly described their sudden wealth as “startling.”

Although the extent of their success is positively mind-boggling, the reasons behind it are quite easy to see. Never complacent, Google is constantly developing new products and applications, and today they are much more than simply a search engine. The Google product line continues to expand, and today includes Google Earth, a satellite imagery program that allows users to view locations across the world, Picasa, a program that allows users to organize and edit photos, and Blogger, now used by thousands to share their thoughts and opinions with the world.

Computer users can also perform highly specific searches, allowing them to view maps of their local area or vacation destination, or quickly find businesses in their local area. So, if a best man in Dallas, TX wanted to rent a hummer or plan the perfect bachelor party, he can look to Google to help find this information.
