Gyration Gyrotransport Air Mouse May Help with “Mouse Arm”

Most of us who are either avid computer users or make our living using the computer have experienced the unpleasant condition of wrist tendonitis, otherwise known as “mouse arm.”  The prevalence of this condition is due to both the amount of time we spend on the computer and also the unnatural wrist position used to operate a mouse.

One solution to the problem of “mouse arm” is to take frequent breaks when using the computer.  Don’t spend every day, all day clicking away with your mouse.  Get outside and enjoy some fresh air or have an adventure.  It should be said that grasping a steering wheel is a much more comfortable position for the wrist, so why not go for a drive?

If you are as enthusiastic about cars as you are about computers, DFW Elite Auto Rental should be your first stop.  DFW Elite Auto Rental has a huge selection of elite cars for rent, the perfect way to spend your mouse-free day.  Another option is DFW Drive Your Dream, where you can drive several amazing cars in a single day.  And for a longer-term solution to your mouse-free entertainment needs, there is DFW Elite Car Club, where members share an entire garage of incredible cars.

No matter how much you enjoy driving elite sports cars, you have to go back to your desk at some point.  That’s why you need to consider purchasing a mouse that is more ergonomically correct that the standard desktop-only variety.

According to CNET.com, “One solution is a gyroscopic mouse, held in the hand like a remote control, which is a much more natural position for the wrist. A company called Gyration has carved out a unique niche with its line of gyroscopic input devices. The tiny $199 Gyrotransport is a good (although expensive) alternative to the traditional travel-size optical mouse, and while primarily intended for controlling things such as PowerPoint presentations, is also useful for home theater PCs and multimedia laptops.”

Rather than scooting the mouse around on the desktop, users of the Gryration Gyrotransport Air Mouse can hold the 1.25 by 2.5-inch device with their forefinger underneath and their thumb on top.  The user can then navigate through screens and control the cursor by moving his wrist.  Since the Gyration Gyrotransport Air Mouse uses RF technology, it has a 100-foot range and does not require line of sight.

According to CNET.com, users find that this new technology takes some getting used to:  “For casual computing, or controlling multimedia software, the Gyrotransport works as well as a traditional optical mouse and is especially suited for couch-based Media Center controls, as it requires no mousing surface.”

The CNET reviews found some drawbacks: “For applications requiring extrafine control, such as gaming and Photoshop editing, it’s less successful. Controlling the mouse pointer can be awkward at first and requires a day or two of practice to feel natural. It’s an acquired taste to be sure, but fans of gyroscopic input devices swear by them.”
