I toyed with naming this article, “Diary of a made Rockies fan,†which would have also been appropriate. It seems to me that the typical baseball fan is a fairly simple creature.Â
We mark our calendars for the day when catchers and pitchers report to camp. We get excited about things like winning the Grapefruit League. We dutifully watch 162 regular season games in the hope that our team is one of the chosen few that get a spot in post-season play. Heck, we even draft fantasy teams and follow every at-bat and pitch like a hedge fund manager studies moves in the markets.Â
What do we want in return? Tickets. In particular, Rockies tickets. Why Rockies tickets? Because the pride of the Mountain Time Zone has managed to navigate their way into the World Series to face the mighty Boston Red Sox.Â
In an effort, I guess, to make the Rockies tickets purchasing easier, the Colorado Rockies organization announced on ColoradoRockies.com that tickets for the World Series will only be available on coloradorockies.com and at Coors Field, Rockies Dugout Stores, via telephone, or at King Soopers.Â
However, a funny thing happened on the way to the server. As anyone with enough computer savvy to operate a Commodore 64 could have guessed, the overwhelming demand for Rockies tickets obliterated the computer systems in place to take and process orders. Therefore, the only method for Rockies fans to buy tickets is out of commission.Â
The Rockies organization plans to have a press conference to determine what the next move will be. But this doesn’t seem to be helping the students at Colorado State University who have monopolized the computer labs all day in hopes of scoring the coveted prize (not to mention the other students who may actually want to use the computers for, uh, school work!).Â
Oh well, if you are one of the lucky ones who lands tickets, treat the occasion with the respect it deserves and go all out for the game(s) you get to attend. At the very least you should rent a limo for the event.Â
If you count yourself among the fans not of the Boston or Colorado variety, perhaps renting an exquisite ride will help to get your mind off of another fruitless year. If you happen to be in the Dallas, Texas area, there are two things you can count on this time of year: (1) the Rangers will be watching baseball and not playing it; and (2) there are numerous opportunities to get your hands on the wheel of an exotic car.Â
Thanks to DFW Elite Auto Rental you can access some of the coolest cars in the world for any special occasion, or just to help alleviate the pain of another Rangers season. If you’re a little more serious about your car enjoyment, look into joining DFW Elite Car Club. This club is unlike most others around the country in that it provides access to a large number of incredible cars through a tiered membership system that removes all of the burdens of ownership. Finally, the perfect escape awaits any car fan with DFW’s Drive Your Dream. This organization offers several different tour packages that allow participants to kill a day driving 5 incredible cars throughout scenic stretches of Texas roadways.Â
Even if your team isn’t in the World Series, cruising around in some fine automobiles can certainly help take your mind off of bad pitching, shaky GM moves, and sub-200 batting averages. It can even distract you until next season when, once again, anything is possible. If you can get tickets!Â
