It seems that the newest attraction in Texas, however, isn’t the scenery, the exciting attractions, or even the human cannonball at this year’s State Fair. Rather, it’s a deep-fried concoction that was invented last year during Texas’s annual festivities.
It’s Fried Coke, and it’s another addition to the list of deep fried specialities offered at the nation’s largest state fair. Two food writers describing their experience at the Texas State Fair also identify fried Oreos, fried Snickers, fried Twinkies, and even fried banana pudding treats available for sampling.
Although the inventor of the original Fried Coke is tight-lipped about how it’s made, the snack has become popular around the country. Those serving the recipe at the Arkansas State Fair admit that it took a little experimentation (2,000 pounds of batter to be exact) to perfect the taste of the unique fried treat. So far, no one is offering their recipe to the public, and makers would only reveal that Coke syrup, baking soda, and powdered sugar are the main ingredients.
