More than 20 years after it appeared in theaters, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off still has a cult following of thousands. Appearing near the top of several film ranking lists, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is listed as number 54 on Bravo’s list of 100 Funniest Movies. At the time of its release, the movie earned raves from the critics, and Matthew Broderick received a Golden Globe Award nomination for his performance in the film.
The title character, Ferris Bueller, is a high school senior who decides to skip school along with his best friend, Cameron, and girlfriend, Sloane. The three skippers try to avoid being caught by the school principal, their parents, and Ferris’ younger sister. The trio “borrow†Cameron’s father’s Ferrari and intend to negate any miles they put on the car by rewinding the miles off the odometer by running the car backwards. (It’s Hollywood!)Â
While the three are taking in a baseball game, parking attendants decide to take the Ferrari for a spin, adding dramatically to the mileage. When they return home and Cameron realizes the mileage on the Ferrari, he becomes catatonic. Finally regaining his senses, he recognizes that his father cares more about the car than he does about him. He takes out his anger on the car, kicking dents in the bumper and hood, and finally, he accidentally sends the car through a plate glass window.Â
Ferris offers to take the blame for the incident, since Cameron’s father doesn’t like him anyway. However, Cameron insists that he needs to face up to his father, and Ferris leaves to see Sloane home. Realizing he is supposed to be at home sick and his parents will arrive at any moment, Ferris leaps fences and runs through yards to make it home. He gets there just in time and is in bed when his parents check on him.
While we’ve all wanted a chance to skip work or school, few of us have the opportunity to do it in a Ferrari. Imagine driving down a winding stretch of road in an incredible car while your coworkers are stuck back in their cubicles. The 2004 Ferrari 360 Spider, 2005 Ferrari F430 F1, and 1998 Ferrari 355 Spider available to members of the DFW Elite Car Club and patrons of DFW Elite Auto Rental are one step to making this dream a reality. Of course, it’s best to actually take a personal day, since the last thing you need is for your boss to see you out driving a Ferrari F430 when you’re supposed to be home in bed.
For those who want an even more incredible day of playing hooky, a great option is a dream tour, like those offered from DFW Drive Your Dream. The 2,500 horsepower tour lets participants drive not only a Ferrari F430, but also a Lamborghini Gallardo, Bentley GT, BMW M6 Convertible, and Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster.Â
