A great post at Luxist detailing the story from the New York Times. The new Ferrari theme park is supposed to be a 40M project with virtual reality race simulators, a pit team experience, and racing school. Not to mention roller coasters, a racetrack and a Ferrari racing museum.
The post points out the effort is part of the UAE’s effort to diversify an economy that is largely based upon oil.
Somehow, I just can’t see Yas Island as the Disneyland of the Middle East. I can’t imagine how Italians feel about the Ferrari park being outside of Italy. To me it would be like if Hershey decided to relocate their theme park to Saudi Arabia. I’d be a little ticked.

A little more coverage from those cool cats at Autoblog. Some interesting info on why Ferrari might have green lighted a UAE location for the park.
Do you think the Ferrari park should have been in Italy? In an age of international brands, am I wrong?

Eric you and I think alike. I agree that Ferrari needs to stay in Italy. Where I can do more on vacation. Hmm… looks like the sheik wants to fulfill a childhood dream or a need for speed fancy. Or maybe increase his revenues for an inclusive airline. Well when you have money I guess you can spend it. Giggle. Thanks for keeping us informed of future fun spots.
