Excused Absence Networks Helps Employees Play Hooky

We’ve all probably called in sick when we just needed a day off, but many employers now require doctor’s notes to prevent this practice.  The Excused Absence Network (www.myexcusedabsence.com) has the answer to this not-so-moral dilemma.  For a price of about $25, employees and students can purchase authentic-looking doctor’s excuse notes.  Also available are fake funeral programs and even mock jury summons.

Besides lying to your boss, there are some other ways to unwind and de-stress from a busy work week.  Many automotive enthusiasts choose to relax while driving an elite sports car.  There are several options for automotive relaxation.  For those who want to rent an elite sports car, rental agencies like DFW Elite Auto Rental (www.dfweliteautorental.com) and Precious Metals, Inc. offer a large selection of elite automobiles.

Another option is joining a car club, like DFW Elite Car Club (www.dfwelitecarclub.com).  Car clubs give members the opportunity to drive many amazing automobiles.  A third way to relax on the road is to participate in a dream tour, like DFW Drive Your Dream (www.dfwdriveyourdream.com), which consists of driving five sports cars back-to-back in a single day.

But for those who don’t receive that much-needed relaxation time from driving, the Excused Absence Network is out there.  Co-founded by Darl Waterhouse and John Liddell, the home-based business appears to be very successful.  The partners will not reveal sales numbers, but Liddell says the company’s website gets a respectable 15,000 hits per month.  Liddell and Waterhouse met while working security for a manufacturing company.  After witnessing several employees use of faked doctor’s notes, the two men launched the company for about $600.

But how often are employees really sick?  According to an article by the Associated Press, “…two-thirds of employees who call in sick at the last minute are really missing work due to family issues, personal needs, stress and an entitlement mentality. Personal illness accounts for only 34 percent of the absences.”

According to the Associated Press article, “The company’s customers receive templates so they can print the notes after typing the name and address of a local doctor or emergency room. Those who choose jury duty as an excuse to miss work enter their county courthouse information on the form.”

This unauthorized use of doctors’ names causes some other ethical concerns.  Doctors’ reputations may be affected by the notes, causing harm to their medical practices.
