Ellen DeGeneres and Portia di Rossi Face off Against Mutts and Moms

Fans of the Ellen DeGeneres show were outraged Tuesday to learn that a dog adopted by DeGeneres and here longtime partner Portia di Rossi was being repossessed by the pet placement agency Mutts and Moms. DeGeneres and di Rossi adopted a Brussels Griffon mix named Iggy on September 20, only to discover a few days later that the dog did not get along with the couple’s cats.  DeGeneres then found a home for Iggy with her hairdresser, a mother with two children.  When the Mutts and Moms discovered the change in ownership, they repossessed the dog, stating that they did not allow dogs to be adopted by families with children under the age of 14.

DeGeneres and di Rossi share many pets and have been together since 2004.  They are known to exchange extravagant gifts, including a black Porsche Carrera and a silver Mercedes 280 SL.  Although such gifts are beyond the reach of those of us who are not movie stars, it is possible to give loved ones the gift of an elite automobile in the form of a car club membership, elite auto rental, or dream tour.

Car clubs, such as DFW Elite Car Club are growing in popularity, since they allow members to drive any of the club’s many exotic cars.  Elite auto rentals, like DFW Elite Auto Rental and Beverly Hills Rent-a-Car, also provide a great way for ordinary people to drive cars similar to those of DeGeneres and di Rossi. To find an agency specializing in daily rental of exotic cars, check an online directory such as www.rentexoticcars.net.  The third option is a dream tour, which gives sports car enthusiasts the opportunity to drive several elite cars in a single day. Several companies, such as Gotham Dream Cars and DFW Drive Your Dream offer such tours in metros across the United States.

DeGeneres made headlines with a televised tearful plea: “Well, I guess I signed a piece of paper that says if I can’t keep Iggy, it goes back to the rescue organization, which is not someone’s home, which is not a family. These two little girls had bonded to the dog. I thought I did a good thing. I tried to find a loving home for the dog because I couldn’t keep it. I was trying to do a good thing.”

“Because I did it wrong, those people went and took that dog out of their home, and took it away from those kids. I feel totally responsible for it and I’m so sorry. I’m begging them to give that dog back to that family. I just want the family to have their dog. It’s not their fault, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have given the dog away. Just please give the dog back to those little girls. I’m sorry I didn’t call you. I’m sorry I did the wrong thing. Just give it back to the family. Please, please, please.”

Mutts and Moms, which is receiving angry calls and death threats from fans of DeGeneres’ talk show, is not backing down…. Read the rest of this story and others by freelance webwriter Kate Miller Wilson on our daily exotic car news page.
