Karl Rove’s Luxury Car Gets Unique Vehicle Wrap Courtesy of White House Staffers

His last day will be Friday, but those kooky cats at the White House couldn’t resist playing a little prank on long time George Bush advisor Karl Rove.

They gave his shiny Jaguar a special custom vehicle wrap, added a pair of stuffed toy eagles to the trunk, and a sign reading “King Karl” and “I love Barrack Obama” to the hood. The photo included with CBS’s article is a thing of beauty.

The car of the soon-to-be-former West Winger was parked in a highly secure area, so it appears to be an inside job.

Some people think he has been getting a bad wrap for a while, so I guess it’s a fitting way to say goodbye.

If he needs a short-term rental while staffers clean things up, I’m sure the good folks at Capital Dream Cars could help him out.

He’s a little too far from us here in Fort Worth, but he probably wouldn’t mind leaving DC behind the wheel of our new Aston Martin convertible rental or making a stylish exit in a Bentley GTC rental.

links in postings

I just thought I would do a posting and fill it with links to the car club, rental,Drive Your Dream, and the toy museum. I love all the news posted on the sites, especially the article about the Pope getting a free membership. If you want to know my favorite car, its the new Bentley GTC Convertible. Its the car to die for! Anyway, I hope you will try one of the Drive Your Dream Events, or even the Batchelor party! I did this entire posting, including all the links in less than 5 minutes. instructions follow.
to do a link, just highlight a section of text, or word, and then click on the little chain link in the tool bar. a box opens. the link url, type in the link, target is left the same with “open link in the same window”, and the title is the words you just highlighted. In one case, for instance, the word rental is highlighted, the link url is http://www.dfweliteautorental.com/, and the title you need to type in is “rental”. (the same word as in the text you highlighted-I havent quite figured this out yet, why do we haev to enter a title? no never mind, it works)
note that the words you highlight(the title), arent the same as the link in most cases.
notice that “car to die for” is linked to the bentley. I just looked up the Bentley in the car club, and copy and pasted the link out of the top pane.

2007 Bertone Barchetta Concept

  • 2007 Bertone Barchetta Concept

    Source - Bertone
Bertone presents the Barchetta concept car in celebration of its 95th anniversary. Based on the floorpan and mechanicals of the Fiat Panda 100 HP, the Bertone Barchetta is an open-topped strictly two-seater sports car that calls to mind the Italian racing cars of the 1950s. In this case, the design explicitly cites the Fiat 500 with Barchetta bodywork created by the young Nuccio Bertone in 1947 as a one-off for his personal use in races.

The decision to celebrate the company’s 95th anniversary with a minimalist yet sophisticated model is perfectly in keeping with the Bertone philosophy. Since its very earliest days, the company has interpreted cars by Italian car makers with an elegant style that emphasises their personality and technological content, with an unparalleled passion for sportiness.

Bertone’s choice of the Fiat brand to celebrate its 95th anniversary was both natural and emotional. Natural because Fiat is the Italian brand par excellence. Emotional because the birth of Bertone as a coachbuilder of ’special’ vehicles is closely linked to the history of the Fiat brand. The historic relationship between the two companies has lasted for more than eighty years and has generated more than fifty highly successful models counting concept cars, one-offs and production cars, from the 850 Spider to the X1/9, from the Ritmo Cabrio to the Punto Cabrio.

    Styling

The Bertone Barchetta is the product of innovative styling which still manages to evoke the historic traditions of the company. The compact, muscular body, with its high, taut waistline, is defined by two aluminium shells joined by a large glazed surface that crosses the doors and extends into the bonnet join line before spawning the low, wraparound windscreen.

The first impression is of a tensed body, characterised by fluid volumes and clean-cut lines, creating classic, dynamic proportions. The result is a car which, in keeping with the best Bertone traditions, is completely above fashion; if anything, it makes its own fashion statement with an uninhibited, futuristic style that projects the concept of the Barchetta – a historic icon in the legend of Italian motorsports – into the future with purposeful elegance and sophisticated irony.

    The exterior

The upper shell is entirely hand beaten and polished by the master panel beaters still working for Bertone today. This single piece of aluminium extends like a cloak from the front tip of the bonnet to embrace the upper part of the sides and rear arches, terminating in the tail. In the side view, the aluminium sheet twists at the level of the rear wheelarch, creating a muscle that melts away into the tail volume. This is a typical Bertone styling cue, imbuing the car as a whole with a powerful sense of sporting aggressiveness.

The lower shell originates from a large sideskirt that tapers towards the rear wheelarch, contributing to the sloping effect of the side.

The decision to extend the glazing to the doors was taken for both functional and emotive reasons. Functionally, it improves visibility, whereas emotively, the solution emphasises the sensation of freedom that only open-topped driving can produce.

The rearward opening scissor doors, hinged around the rear wheelarch, are a Bertone patent. This is in keeping with the company’s historic attention to the specific issue of accessibility, interpreted always with surprising solutions, such as the cockpit canopy of the Testudo (1962), the double gull wings of the Marzal (1967), the hinged windscreen of the Stratos 0 (1970) and the large gate-like sliding doors of the Villa (2005).

The front features LED lights and a closed, floating grille embossed in the metalwork. The rising bonnet line is interrupted by an air vent for the engine. The rear volume is framed by LED lights which point up the muscular width. At the centre of the tail volume is a small luggage compartment, with a cover trimmed in the same leather used for the interior.

    The cabin

The cabin, delimited by the wraparound windscreen and rear roll bar and furnished with sophisticated minimalism and minute attention to detail, is directly inspired by the 1947 Fiat 500 Barchetta. The anatomic seats, upholstered in natural leather, are fixed and sculpted directly into the metalwork. A console area between the two seats includes a stowage tray and an iPod dock.

The adjustable dash is anchored to two exposed rails and painted in glossy white. The instruments are essential and easy to read, with a speedometer, gauges for water and oil temperature and a fuel gauge.

Air flow within the cabin is assisted by two centrally mounted exposed fans, covered by a protective grille The gearlever is machined from a solid billet of aluminium and is hand polished. As with competition ‘Barchetta’ models, the driving control mechanisms are all exposed.

    Big earners pick Porsche

The 2007 Rich Car List compiled by British insurer swiftcover.com rates the Zuffenhausen marque’s products as the “most likely” to be driven by high earners.

Based on more than 2.7 million online quotas, the company has compiled a top 10 list of the most likely and most unlikely marques chosen by those in its high income earning bracket (more than R600 000 per annum).

In the survey, Porsche topped the desirable list for the second year running, ahead of Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz who switched places for second and third places in 2007.

Lexus, Saab, Audi, Jeep, BMW, Smart and Alfa Romeo completed the top ten. The Italian marque enters the list at the exclusion of Mini, while both Audi and BMW improved by two positions from last year.

Not making the ‘top 10′ are Honda (12), Toyota (16) and Volvo (23), which slumps 11 places since 2006.

Proton, Daewoo and Mini are the three most unlikely brands driven by high income earners, according to the list.

If you can’t afford to buy one, rent one from www.driveyourdream.com.  Very affordable!

MSNBC Reports that Credit Crunch in Housing Market is Spilling Over to New Car Sales

Falling housing prices and jitters in the housing markets are making Americans a little jittery about spending on big-ticket items such as new luxury cars.

The MSNBC story notes that interest in used cars has increased and that new luxury car sales have been hit hard by the double whammy of higher fuel costs and uncertainty in the financial markets.

The article predicts that carmakers will sweeten incentives to draw Americans back into luxury car showrooms… A Dallas car club membership would be a nice alternative to luxury car purchase for those that want to see how the markets settle out over the next year or so.

Some interesting info on auto finance in the article.

    Triple White New Beetle Convertible

In the Met-Rx World’s Strongest Man competition, comically beefy men pick up, drag, and throw around hundreds of pounds in events such as the keg toss, the fridge carry, and the truck pull. In a competition involving 300-plus-pound men strolling down the street while harnessed to Peterbilts, the testosterone is thicker than a powerlifter’s torso. This, friends, is man.

But we bet even reigning World’s Strongest Man Phil Pfister would be a little uncomfortable in a Triple White New Beetle Convertible; he’d likely prefer to dead-lift the car (another popular WSM event) a dozen or so times instead of actually driving it. As for describing the bug, we’re thinking of two words rhyming with “hick czar,” which, by the way, would be an apt title for Jeff Foxworthy’s autobiography.

Volkswagen’s New Beetle convertible has been garnering adoration and unnerving otherwise confident men since 2003. We have tested convertible Beetles before (in 2003 and 2004) and, despite its awesome sluggishness, the bug has managed to endear itself to us from the start. Since its last visit, though, the New Beetle has found a new engine. And this color scheme.

    Porsche

When Porsche first introduced the Cayenne SUV in 2003, many hardcore Porschephiles felt that this was the end of the sports car company. Instead, the Cayenne turned out to be quite successful for the automaker, and for 2008, Cayenne gets its first complete redesign since its introduction. With a fresh face that features a new headlight design with a muscular 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabrioletbody accented by broad wheel arches, Cayenne is available with one of three more powerful engines, including a 500-horsepower 4.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that delivers 516 lb-ft of torque in the Cayenne Turbo. The Turbo, which qualifies as a low-emission vehicle, reaches 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 171 mph. Other new features for the Cayenne include a standard power rear liftgate, optional 21-inch wheels, a rail-mounted cargo management system and XM satellite radio. Meanwhile, another benefit of Porsche selling SUVs: the company is making enough money to develop its sports car lineup, including the all-new 2008 911 Turbo Cabriolet. One of the most powerful convertibles on the market, the 911 Turbo Cab redefines the concept of wind in your hair with a top speed of almost 200 mph. A 480-horsepower twin-turbo boxer engine makes this air-induced styling possible; the engine moves this newest Porsche to 60 mph in a mere 3.5 seconds. The 911 Turbo Cabriolet uses a light, three-layer soft-top that can be opened and closed in just 20 seconds at speeds of up to 30 mph.

The Porsche is cool, but I think driving an Aston Martin V8 Vantage from DFW Elite’s Drive Your Dream is more my style.

    Porsche 968

The Porsche 968 simply means the legacy of the Porsche 944 gets to live on. In 1991 the 944 S2 was discontinue but the 968 was waiting in the wings to make its debut.

Porsche has been busy working on a replacement model for sometime which originally was going to be called the 944 S3 but with so many new features they thought it was better to actually give it an entire new image.

It hit the market retaining all of the great things of the 944 and added all the great new features. If you thought the 944 looked great the 968 is even more impressive with its sleek new lines while still clearly keeping its 944 image.

It has fully integrated bumpers that are actually an extension of the Carrere 2, the air intakes have been rearranged, and it comes with pop up headlamps, red lenses neutral dense taillights, with the 968 lettering on the rear deck lid.

The 16 valve DOHC inline 4 cylinder aluminum block has plenty to offer with an amazing 236 HP at 6200 RPM. It has a compression ration of 8.3:1 and 13.1 lbs per horsepower. You can choose from a 6 speed manual transmission or 4 speed tiptronic.

The independent front has lower control arm, spring struts, and anti roll bar while the independent rear has semi trailing arms, anti roll bar, and transverse torsion bars.

Fuel consumption isn’t really great but there are worse. It gets 17 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway. Of course this is the type of car you want to get out on the road and let loose.

You’ll get ? mile in 14.4 seconds with the 6 speed or 15.1 with the tiptronic transmission. You get 0-60 MPG in 5.9 seconds with the 6 speed or 7 seconds with the tiptronic.

The 968 coupe has the best balance of any of the Porsche bodies and it has more power than the 944 with the 240 HP off the 3.0 liter engine. The increased HP is partially a result of the Variocam which is a camshaft chain drive that has an adjustable tensioner.

The Porsche 968 was produced from 1992 to 1995 and it truly is a classic sports car in both the 2 door coupe and 2 door convertible versions. It was sold in Germany right up until 1995 and when production and sales ceased it really was the end of a Porsche era.

The 968 engine was the second largest 4 cylinder engine that was ever put into a production car and it had the second highest output of power passed only by the Acura.

The 968 borrowed the Brembo 4 piston brake caliper system and you’ll find it on all four wheels. You’ll also find a Macpherson strut front end, steel unibody structure, and aluminum front A arms.

Now here’s something else to think about. How often do you get to put this kind of power on the street and stay legal? Well here’s your chance. The 968 CS is street legal but it truly belongs on the track. It’s been stripped out to lighten it up and it’s got plenty of power to impressive them all.

Porsche is a company that’s smart! They keep the great components, have no trouble with innovative changes, and they have a way of putting it all together to provide a performance car that’s high in demand.

    Bugatti Veyron

    Bugatti Veyron 16.4 specs
    Top Speed: 248.5 mph / 400 km/h
    0-60 mph: 2.7 seconds
    Engine: Quad Turbo W-16

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 joined the league of supercars with a series of superlative modifiers such as the ´fastest, most powerful and most expensive´ street-legal production cars in the world. The ever powerful Veyron engine is capable of yielding 1020 to 1040 metric HP, and so the Veyron 16.4 supercar is now better known as the ´1001 horsepower´ car.

The famous sports car manufacturer, Bugatti Automobiles SAS, a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, owns the prestigious title for manufacturing the super performer of the world. The name ´Veyron´ is attributed to the French racing driver Pierre Veyron who won the title ´24 hours of Le Mans´ in 1939 for Bugatti. Bugatti, with its long years of experience in making the traditional racing cars since the early ´90s, tries the track in the modern era with a well-advanced version of their technology applied in the Veyron 16.4.

Bugatti Veyron is an exclusive sports car for the 21st century. It exemplifies the perfect blending of design with technological concept.

Offering a high performance with serious measures to ensure safety was the major concern at Bugatti while yielding a maximum performance speed of 252.3 mph (406 km/h) to this leader of the modern era racing cars. Thanks to the single-piece carbon-fiber monocoque technology that absolutely suited the Bugatti Veyron supercar and scored the maximum points at various crash tests. Adding to this perfect body structure are other safety measures such as the airbags and the PAX system applied on the wheels and tires.

Another innovative safety measure applied is the rear spoiler of this sports car that performs double action – it provides the necessary downforce at high-speed driving, and it acts as a ´parachute brake´ during sudden braking. It helps to add additional air resistance to the brakes and thus reduces the braking distance of this supercar to great extent.

The W16 alloy engine is an important feature of the Veyron 16.4. The 16 cylinders are arranged in 4 banks of 4 cylinders. The engine uses four turbochargers that are capable of a displacement of 8.0L with an 86X86 mm bore and stroke. The dual-cultch DSG computer controlled manual transmission system sets the Veyron sports car to have full automatic transmission. The system is provided with seven gear ratios through the shifter paddles situated behind the steering wheel, and they offer 8ms shift time.

The wheels and tires are also modified to facilitate an improved performance of the new supercar. The all-wheel-drive helps to transfer the power efficiently to the road while speed driving. The Michelin run-flat tires used in the Veyron meet all the safety standards and suit the adventurous driving situations and racing conditions.

The brake system consists of a cross-drilled and turbine-vented carbon rotors. Each caliper is provided with eight titanium pistons. The braking system of Veyron supercar is so effective that it can produce a deceleration of 1.3g on road tires.

The interior of the Veyron 16.4 sports car features an exceptional design that exhibits the creativity and the aesthetics of the designer. The superb quality leather, the metallic trim, and the ergonomically set instrument panel add to the touching cockpit experience.

2006 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 sets itself an example to the luxury car world in terms of its design, technology, and the performance.
