Seven supercars for people with big dollars or big dreams.

Despite contemptible slander of the title by a succession of Pontiac Grand Ams, the initials GT (for Grand Touring) define a category that produces some of the most interesting—and often priciest—vehicles extant. Rich business folk and heirs to hotel fortunes must travel quickly, stylishly, and in comfort (and often without panties). GT offerings, therefore, must feature effortless speed, thoroughly tailored luxury, and lines that produce at least envy in others, if not lust.
Alfa Romeo returns to the American market with the 8C Competizione, which aims not just to put the Grand back in GT, but also to prime the public for the return to these shores of Alfa’s more pedestrian models as well. Following is a look at the Alfa and six other exclusive fantasies with which—despite grand variations in speed, notoriety, price, and execution—the 8C must compete for both dollars and dreams.
