One of the two federal holidays named for a person, Columbus Day celebrates Christopher Columbus’ accidental discovery of America. This fall holiday means no mail delivery and closed banks and federal offices; however, for many people, it’s business as usual.Â
Schools will be open, and so will most local and state offices. Private businesses, like DFW Elite Auto Rental, DFW Elite Car Club, and DFW Drive Your Dream will be open. But besides being a bank and post office holiday, Columbus Day is a great way to celebrate the start of autumn.
Pick out your pumpkins! A fun way to celebrate fall is to choose your Halloween pumpkins. With the cooler weather ahead, your pumpkins will not go bad before Halloween if they remain uncut. Pick the kids up after school, and head out for a pumpkin patch to choose the perfect pumpkin for a Jack O’ Lantern.
Go for a fall drive! Why not take a drive to celebrate autumn. You can tour the fall colors, put the top down on your convertible, and feel the crispness in the air. To make your drive even more exciting, try renting an elite sports car from places like DFW Elite Auto Rental, Gotham Dream Cars, or Beverly Hills Rent-A-Car. These agencies rent beautiful automobiles, perfect for taking a spin around the countryside this autumn.
Pick some apples! This fall, why not pick your own apples. You can take a drive out to your nearest apple orchard and select your own apples. Take them home to make pies, applesauce, or just to eat as snacks.
Make cookies! There’s nothing more fun on a rainy fall day than making cookies. If you have the day off, why not bake some cookies for the kids as they return from school. There’s nothing that says “Welcome home!†like the smell of baking cookies.
Take a hike! Head out to the nearest nature area and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of autumn. Spend some time hiking with the family, and take fun fall photos, collect beautiful leaves, and make some great family memories.
