An Italian Mustang

The Ford Mustang is a true American icon. So what happens when two Italian designers create their own interpretation of the legendary muscle car? You get one of the vehicles that Ford debuted here in Los Angeles—the Mustang by Giugiaro.

This one-of-a-kind concept is clearly based on a Mustang, but it looks sleeker and more powerful. Shorter than the original with less rear overhang, this Italian Mustang has a longer hood and is wider and lower than a standard Mustang GT. Not only does it look more powerful, it has the hardware to back up that styling. Under the hood is a supercharged Ford racing engine producing 500 horsepower.

It took Fabrizio Giugiaro just four months to complete an exterior model in the family’s studios in Turin, Italy. It would take 30,000 hours of work to create the final product.

Besides the bright orange paint, some of the styling cues include the single glass panel that combines the windshield with a panoramic roof; unique 20-inch wheels with matching orange trim; taillights reminiscent of the original Mustang but with a modern flair; and most noticeable, the scissor-type doors that open or close with the touch of a button.
