A Racetrack, A Classic Car Museum, Peter Egan and the Shelby Cobra in the Barn

I saw a nice piece in the New York Times about Saratoga and noticed down near the end that there is a car museum not too terribly far from the track.

The Saratoga Automobile Museum is at 110 Avenue of the Pines in beautiful Saratoga Springs and appears to have a superb collection and a full calendar of summer lawn car shows. Looks like a German Motorfest is scheduled for August 18th. Pity they don’t post pictures from past car shows in an easy to access spot.

Their current exhibit is one that looks fun. It’s called Barn Finds and is about classic cars that were unearthed in unlikely places. I suppose that every collector’s fantasy is to find a Steve McQueen Ferrari in a self-storage unit somewhere or a classic Shelby Cobra under a tarp in a long neglected corner.

Wish I could tell you more about their event, when it runs and so on, but their site isn’t very helpful. However, they did post a piece of writing that is worth the time of any auto enthusiast or car collector. It’s by Road and Track’s Peter Egan. I think his writing is sensational. Even a person who hates cars would find the way he writes about them interesting. He discusses the special joy of barn finds.

I think the Times finally dropped the annoying habit of wanting your personal info for glancing at their online content. Here’s their Saratoga article for fans of the legendary track:
