600HP BMW Z8

This computer-generated image shows how the next BMW Z8 could look when it is launched in 2010.

The Z8 is expected to have a range of high-powered engines, including a 300bhp 3.0-litre V6, 400bhp 4.4-litre V8, 500bhp 5.0-litre V10 and 600bhp 6.3-litre V12.

It will weigh about 1500kg, which is about 250kg less than the rival Mercedes SL.

Features will include active steering and suspension systems to improve handling, as well as stability control, a folding metal roof and retractable wind deflector.

An M-tuned version of the car is possible, too, using either the V10 or V12 engine.

Prices are expected to begin at £55,000.
