Maybe you’re graying a little and your college pants don’t quite fit as well as they once did. Perhaps you’ve even committed the unforgivable sin of driving a minivan. Still, somewhere inside is a super-cool Steve McQueen just waiting to bust out.
Well here’s your chance to give that inner stud a hand. Yesterday, Ford released the first pictures of its soon-to-be-released and highly anticipated 2008 Mustang Bullitt.Â
For those not quite old enough to get the reference, the 2008 Mustang Bullitt is a replica of the car made famous by Steve McQueen in the 1968 hit movie bearing the same name. The movie did for car chases what Enter the Dragon did for fight scenes or Last Tango in Paris did for, uh, never mind.
The 2008 Mustang Bullitt was painstakingly engineered to accurately represent the ’68 version, right down to the “Dark Highland Green†color that is exclusive to the model. In fact, the 2008 Mustang Bullitt will only be available in its original color and black. Overall, the design of the 2008 Mustang Bullitt is understated. From its exterior which lacks any spoilers or other over-the-top markings, to its interior which boasts dark leather and few eye-catching features.Â
Under the hood the 2008 Mustang Bullitt features a 4.6-liter V8 that generates 315 horsepower and can deliver speeds around 150 mph, not that anyone would test that limit. Don’t expect the market to be flooded with Steve McQueen wannabes. Ford only plans to make 7,700 of the 2008 Mustang Bullitts.Â
For those who have trouble getting their hands on one of these coveted machines, or who just don’t want to deal with the vagaries of ownership, exotic car clubs may be the perfect way to satisfy your performance car craving. Exotic car clubs exist all over the country. www.exoticarclubs.com is an exotic car club directory that can help you find a club in your local area.Â
These clubs typically allow for different levels of membership and allow members to access some of the most exotic cars in the world. In Texas, for example, DFW Elite Car Club offers various levels of membership and a huge assortment of classic and exotic cars. This exotic car sharing video demonstrates the workings of such a car club. In addition, The Robb Report Collection has an excellent article describing some of the top clubs in the United States on their web site.
For a shorter-term fix, exotic car rentals in Austin or other cities are great for that special occasion or fun weekend excursion.   For example, DFW Elite Auto Rental has a fully stocked garage of great automobiles and even offers Internet exotic car rental specials.Â
Finally, if you are in true Steve McQueen fantasy mode, perhaps an exotic car tour is more your speed. These tours are popular in places such as Los Angeles and New York. Texas benefits from the presence of DFW Drive Your Dream that offers tours throughout Texas. Additionally, these tours allow participants to choose from four different daylong fantasy car driving car tours. These tour videos show the fun participants have driving the cars they have been dreaming of. Enjoy!
