A Steed Built For Speed from Maranello: The Ferrari F430 F1
In yellow, a
Ferrari F430 Coupe is a strikingly beautiful car. It’s also unique. How many exotic cars can claim the distinction of having been track tested by an F1 legend?
Michael Schumacher track tested the
Ferrari F430 no less than ten times during development.
As the paperwork for my
Dallas Ferrari rental is finalized, I know that I am less than a minute from sliding behind the controls and searching out some deserted stretches of North Texas Hill Country highway. I want the adrenaline rush of road testing this Ferrari F430 for myself.
Slide behind the wheel and press red ignition button and the F430 engine awakens with a snarl that is unmistakably Ferrari. A snarl that makes me believe this F430 is worthy to succeed the
Ferrari 360.
The F430 isn’t an evolution; it’s a revolution. Over 70% of the car is new according
a review of the F430 published in Forbes. Notably new: a rear mounted V-8 that shares components with the flagship
Enzo Coupe and the V-8s used to power the exotic cars made by Ferrari’s Maserati subsidiary.
In the hands of performance minded Italian engineers, the F430’s engine is tuned to a far greater degree than the Maserati version so that it delivers trademark Ferrari power at higher engine speeds. The F430 F1 kicks 490 HP at 8500 RPM, and dashes 0 to 60 mph in a hair less than 4 seconds.
My heart pounds as I feel the vibration and take in the deep racecar growl of the V-8. As I mash the accelerator, the sound is glorious. The 2005 Berlinetta’s deep growl becomes a resounding yell and finally a piecing scream of celebration of internal combustion. The engine seems to dare me to explore its upper limits.
Because the F430 is my first
experience driving a Ferrari, I was not prepared for how light the accelerator is to the touch. At one moment, the Ferrari is cool, serene, and refined, but – with the tinniest tap of my right foot – I can transform it into a furious beast capable of unleashing head-snapping G-forces.
The world is full of fast cars, but precious few come anywhere close to handling like the Ferrari F430. Even the notoriously hard to please UK auto reviewer Jeremy Clarkson had this to say about the Ferrari’s handling, “The handling, like the engine, is brilliant.” Having spent a few hours driving the most scenic and remote roads outside Dallas in a
rental Ferrari F430, I agree completely.
Perhaps what is most surprising to me about driving the F430 is how easy it was. Despite the assurances from my
DFW Elite Auto Rental representative, I was unsure of how well I would do behind the wheel of such an exotic car. After all, the Ferrari F430 shares lots of DNA with F1 cars. Yet this latest Ferrari was not hard to handle. With automatic mode on the sequential manual transmission and electronic stability control, even a novice exotic car driver was able to get the car to perform at spine tingling levels.
Call and reserve the Ferrari F430 for yourself or as an unforgettable anniversary or
birthday gift for a Dallas car enthusiast. Whether you are contemplating a drive in the Ferrari F430 because you belong to DFW’s premier
exotic car sharing club or as part of a
2500 HP Tour, you will not be disappointed in a day spent with the
Ferrari F430 F1.
